Benue Amnesty Won’t Fail - Ortom

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, on Saturday, dispelled insinuations that his amnesty programme would fail due to the gruesome murder of his security aide, Denen Igbanna, who according to the governor was the brain behind the success of the programme.

Igbanna, who was last week murdered in cold blood in front of his family, was alleged to have been assassinated by the same criminal gang that had embraced the amnesty deal but were unhappy with the way they were treated.

Ortom, speaking in Makurdi while highlighting his achievement in his one year in office described the amnesty programme as one of his greatest achievements since assumption of office, which he said would not be allowed to crumble.

He said, “We will not spear anybody directly or indirectly involved in the assassination. Those involved would be arrested and prosecuted. It does not matter whether the person is in my cabinet. Be it from my family member or even my own son, that person must face justice, because my late security aide was the trusted person in my government.”

The governor said that two people had been arrested in connection with the assassination and that more arrests would be made.
