BENNETWORK MOURNS REV. FR. ADEYI; TASKS STATE GOVERNMENT ON ENHANCED SECURITY

The Benue Elite Development Network mourn and sympathise with the entire catholic community, the Idoma nation and the Adeyi’s family of Ogbadibo Local Government on the death of Rev. Fr. John Adeyi, Vicar-General, Oturkpo Diocese and Parish Priest of St. Bernard Parish, Ugwu-Okpoga.

The news of Rev. Adeyi’s abduction and subsequent murder came to us a surprise. It is quite unfortunate that we now live in a world where God’s anointed ones have become the targets of heinous crimes. The slain Reverend Father was a perfect gentleman who dedicated his entire being to the service of God and humanity.

This is a clear case of man’s inhumanity against man. We ask the Almighty God to grant the soul of the departed, eternal rest and give those he has left behind the fortitude to bear this great loss.
We are calling on the Inspector General of Police, other security agencies and the Benue State government to carry out a detailed investigation into this trend of kidnapping, which has been particularly targeted at Priests of Idoma extraction following the kidnap of another Otukpa born Priest, Rev. Fr. Julius Gospel Inalegwu, a Catholic Priest with Kano Catholic Diocese, who was reported to have been abducted in the early hours of yesterday in Kano State. It is worthy to note that this action is capable of jeopardizing the peaceful coexistence of the state and as such, we demand that the perpetrators be brought to justice so as to nip this ugly development in the mud and to make the society a safer place.
The primary responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and properties of her citizens. We are worried about the spate of crime across the state as our fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters now lie in wake for fear of being attacked by the dreaded herdsmen or being kidnapped. We are tasking the Governor Ortom led administration to enhance on the security apparatus in the state because it seems the amnesty program is yet to rid the society of arms and ammunitions.
Signed:
Comrade Omaga E. Daniel,
Public Relations Officer, BENNETWORK.
