The Benue State Security Council has banned operations of motorcyclists popularly known as "Okada" within Makurdi metropolis from 6pm to 6am.

This is part of measures by the State Government to strengthen security in the state and forestall breakdown of law and order.

Addressing journalists today shortly after an emergency State Security Council meeting, Governor Samuel Ortom also announced a stakeholders meeting involving religious leaders tomorrow to address the current protests in the state.

While urging security agencies to arrest and prosecute those fomenting trouble in the state capital, Governor Ortom expressed happiness that the swift intervention of security agencies had since brought the situation under control.

He called for intensive security surveillance especially during the night to ensure that no reprisals are carried out.
