Govt declares Dec 25, 26, Jan 1 as public holidays

FG declares december 25th and 26th as well as January 1, 2015 as public holidays to mark the Christmas, Boxing Day  and New Year celebrations. 

A statement issued Friday by the Ministry of Interior and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Abubakar Magaji, said the minister, Abba Moro, who made the declaration on behalf of government, “enjoined all Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to extend the spiritual benefits of Christmas, which are love, peace, justice, kindness to their daily living and through this contribute to the development of the nation".

 While urging Nigerians to pray for the unity and progress of the nation, Moro said the occasion should be seen as another opportunity to be at peace with one another even as he wishes all a merry Christmas and Happy new year.

The statement reads in part, "the Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday 25th and Friday 26th December, 2014 as Public Holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day Celebrations. "Similarly, Thursday, 1st January, 2015 has been declared a Public Holiday to mark the New Year,” it added.
