Benue police arrest 2 rape suspects

The Benue State Police Command has arrested two persons in connection with the rape of a 17-year-old girl around David Mark bye-pass in Makurdi metropolis. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), John Bako, who disclosed this yesterday in a chat with newsmen explained that the young girl (name withheld) was sent on an errand by her parents at about 7p.m. on Tuesday when a group of ‘bad boys’ accosted her on the way. He noted that having forcibly abducted the teenager, the young men led her to an uncompleted building in the area and took turns to have carnal knowledge of the girl. Bako revealed that the police launched a manhunt for the suspected criminals, which led to the arrest of two of them after a report was made, adding that other members of the gang were still at large. The PPRO, however, assured residents of the state that the command was committed to the safety of lives and property even as he called on them to partner with the police to rid the society of criminal elements.
