ORTOM ASSUMES FORMAL WORK AS GOVERNOR TODAY, ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS OF TAKEMA, ADAIKWU, ORBUNDE, AND AGERZUA

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, today assumed duty at Government House which he had renamed Benue Peoples House, with the disclosure that his immediate concern was to maintain law and order.

He arrived his office at 11 am and two permanent secretaries, Mr Eugene Ivase, Government House Administration, and Ityosange Akaagerger, Special Duties and other management staff received him. 

The Governor thereafter had a few minutes of a private prayer session with some clergymen.

"My immediate task is to maintain law and order and provide security for our people," he stated soon after he took his seat.
Ortom said he would parley with all concerned especially the conventional security apparatus, traditional rulers, youths, as well as farmers and herders in order to reach an acceptable compromise on conflicting issues. 

According to him until a permanent solution included the establishment of ranches was arrived at farmers and herders must seek ways of coexistence. 

He disclosed that after consultation with stakeholders he would announce a salvage package for the state which will address pressing matters.

"I'm aware of the backlog of arrears of salaries and pensions, I'm aware of strikes especially that of the Benue State University, we shall consult with them and find a way to resolve the matter so that they will resume," he stated.

The Governor reiterated his resolve and commitment to surmount the challenges confronting the people within the shortest possible time and appealed for support.

While addressing staff at the old Banquet Hall, he solicited loyalty and discipline and urged that the right thing should be done as he had come with the carrot and stick to reward and also punish while assuring that he would provide what was necessary to enable staff to perform their duties.

Mr Ivase pledged the loyalty of staff and their commitment to the success of the new administration.

Ortom, announced the first appointments with Targema Takema as the Secretary to the State Government, Iwanta Adaikwu as Head of Service, Terwase Orbunde as Chief of Staff and Tahav Agerzua, as Media Adviser. 

The Governor who made the announcement at the caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at the old Banquet Hall of Benue Peoples House disclosed that the inauguration of the officials will be done at same venue tomorrow, 2nd June, 2015.
