ORTOM INTERVEN IN POLICE VS OKADA CLASH

Last night, an irate mob attempted to set ablaze the ‘E’ Division Police Station located on Abu King Shuluwa Road in Makurdi, Benue State capital.

The mob is said to have reacted to the alleged killing of a commercial cyclist, popularly called ‘Okada’ by a police man at a check-point on the road resulting from an argument.

The mob which is reported to have barricaded portions of the road had made bone-fire of some types on the road before proceeding to the ‘E’ Division Police.

An ‘Okada’ rider who spoke to newsmen under anonymity claimed that a police man had shot and killed the cyclist (name yet undisclosed) during an argument resulting from a demand for some money by the police.

Benue.com.ng today posted pictures of the new Benue Governor Samuel Ortom in the street addressing the protesters. The situation is under control now following the governor's prompt intervention.
