A middle-aged man (names withheld) has been arrested and arranged before a Makurdi Court for allegedly having sexual intercourse with his 11-year-old daughter.

Vanguard learned that the accused was arrested a few days ago after allegedly engaging the girl in days of repeated sexual abuse whenever his wife was away from home.

He was, however, caught in the act by a neighbour, who heard the cry of the girl, while she was allegedly being sexually abused, in one of his escapades.

The neighbour was said to have called the attention of his wife to the development. She examined her daughter and, convinced that she had been defiled, reported the matter to the police.

At the hearing yesterday, police prosecutor, Inspector Hyacinth Gbakun, told the court that the accused contravened Section 91 of the Penal Code and the laws of Benue State.

However, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction, but the prosecuting officer asked for an adjournment to allow the police carry out further investigations.

In her ruling, the presiding judge, Mrs. Cecilia Bakara, ordered that the accused be remanded at Makurdi Federal Prison and adjourned the case to September 29.
