Benue Governor Recommends Apprenticeship for Employment Opportunities

Governor Samuel Ortom has recommended apprenticeship scheme to youths in Benue State in particular and Nigeria in general as the best panacea for the mounting unemployment among the populace.

The governor spoke recently in Kaduna after being conducted round the premises of the Northern Regional Headquarters of Nezam Transport Nigeria Limited by the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Terna Hembah.

Ortom told the youths most of who are staff members of the haulage outfit that Hembah was a product of the apprenticeship scheme and he (Hembah) was also a one-time Danfo (commercial bus) driver in Lagos.
He urged them to be committed to providing dedicated service in whichever capacity they had the opportunity to provide, noting that if they did that they would prosper and one day other persons would also serve them.

According to him, the story of how he rose from humble beginnings to his present position also underscored the importance of the apprenticeship system, and he urged the unemployed youths to attach themselves to those who had succeeded in their chosen professions and learn under them under their tutelage.
The Governor commended Hembah for his resilience and perseverance, qualities which have made him not only to become an international transporter but also a role model and major employment provider among his community.

He explained that he visited the Chief Executive Officer so as to encourage him to sustain and even surpass his present accomplishments, in a bid to be more relevant to the people of his community and the country in general.
While making his own interjections, Hembah explained to the governor and the youths that he had operated in Nigeria, Tanzania and Malawi and would soon move to Ghana.

He also added proudly that his outfit has employed hundreds of people with most of them Benue State indigenes, and called of individuals of like mind to emulate his strides so that the problem of unemployment, especially among the youths in the country can be ameliorated to some reasonable extent.
