Benue State Universal Basic Education Board Has 23, 585 Workers – Perm Sec

Benue State Universal Basic Education Board has stated that it has a total number of twenty three thousand five hundred and eighty five (23, 585) workers both teaching and non-teaching.

Permanent Secretary of the Board, Mrs. Judith Hiinyam, who made this known while speaking with newsmen in her office in Makurdi, the state capital, said the board has employed stringent measures to address teachers truancy since it cannot tolerate laxity on the part of any teacher, saying those found wanting will face disciplinary action.

She however said the number was not adequate, expressing hope that when additional funds are available, the Board may employ additional persons.

She said: “Though this number is not adequate and many Local governments have requested for employment of more teachers but there seems to be not enough money on ground, so we have decided to put that on hold”.

She said the Board has charged the Education Monitoring Team to step up their surveillance to ensure that teachers stay on their duty post, adding that the wage bill of workers of SUBEB is not stable as the board usually spend between N1.8 billion and N1.9 billion on payment of salaries on a monthly basis.
