Benue Students To Plant 800,000 Trees Yearly

Every student in Benue State is expected to plant, at least, one economic tree, each year, beginning from 2016.

Governor Samuel Ortom gave the directive while presenting this year’s budget to the House of Assembly in Makurdi.

“I have directed the ministries of Education, Agriculture and Environment to collaborate and ensure that every student in Benue State plants one economic tree each year. When this is faithfully carried out, Benue will have at least 800, 000 additional economic trees planted by students beginning from 2016,” he said.

The idea, according to the governor was to basically key into the federal government’s policy for ensuring a green environment in order to better the lots of the citizens.

Ortom added that his administration would improve on environmental issues bothering the state.
