New Year: Auto Crash Claims 5 Lives in Benue

A ghastly car accident, yesterday, has left no fewer than five persons dead with several others sustaining varying degrees of injury in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue state

According to an eyewitness, the accident involved a lorry conveying over 50 members of the Universal Reformed Christian Church, URCC, otherwise known as NKST, to Gboko local government area.

According to the source, members of the Achusa and High Level branch of the church were on their way to the annual NKST Conference when the vehicle conveying them skidded off the road.

"I think the driver of the lorry was trying to avoid a pothole on the road when he lost control of the lorry and ended up in the bush where the vehicle fell with the passengers.

"As I speak with you, we gathered that five person died in the accident while many sustained injuries, though they have all been taken to public hospitals in Tarka and Gboko for treatment."

At the time of filing this report, many family members of passengers of the ill-fated vehicle were trying to locate their loved ones in other to establish their condition.

When contacted, the Public Enlightenment Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Mr. Samson Audu, said the Command was yet to get full details of the incident.
