Tor Tiv’s Death: Businesses Boom As Dignitaries Storm Benue For Traditional Wake

The five intermediate areas in the Tiv nation have commenced the performance of the traditional wake for the deceased Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh Alfred Akawe Torkula, just as traders are making brisk businesses.

This is even as notable dignitaries from across the country and in the diaspora including top government functionaries are storming the ancestral area for the traditional wake.

At Gboko town, the traditional home of the Tiv nation yesterday, business men and women were seen arranging pavilion that would accommodate their wares throughout the period of the funeral.

It was observed that food vendors, beer and wine dealers were sighted situating and decorating the relaxation spots where they would operate their businesses. Hoteliers are not left out as lodgers are calling to book for accommodation ahead of the traditional burial.

The chairman of the central planning committee for the funeral ceremony of the Tor Tiv, Brigdr. General Atom Kpera told LEADERSHIP Weekend that after all the intermediate areas would perform the wake, the Tiv traditional Assembly ‘Ijir Tamen’ will sit at the council chambers on 3rd February, 2016, where the traditional inquest and valedictory session will be held.

According to Kpera, Thursday, 4th February, 2016, there would be committal at JS Tarka stadium for the final activities including interdenominational service and interment rites at the tomb side in Gboko town.
