Benue Retrains 16,000 Teachers

Government has commenced the retraining of not fewer than 16,000 of its primary and post primary school teachers to enhance teaching and learning in the state. Gov. Ortom of Benue State Declaring open the week long training yesterday at Gboko Local Government area, Governor Samuel Ortom, said the programme was a deliberate effort by his administration to rejuvenate the education sector.

Ortom stated that the beneficiaries of the training would include 10,000 primary and 6,000 secondary school teachers. The Governor said, “The refresher seminar is part of activities lined up to rejuvenate the education sector in the state.’ Others include efforts to pay counterpart funding and access a total of N7.6 billion for primary schools while budgetary provision has been made for retraining of teachers.

 The current programme includes training of 6000 secondary school teachers, and 10,000 primary school teachers. We will also renovate and furnish at least 400 primary schools across the state and build new classrooms.”
