Mystery Fire Razes Benue Links Transport Company, Destroys Vehicles

A mystery fire yesterday razed the state-owned Benue Links Transport company in Makurdi and destroyed commercials vehicles in the place.

LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered that that the inferno which occurred at about 4 pm lasted for hours before the men of the fire service intervened and put it out.

The source of the fire was unknown but it was learnt that that the inferno was caused by an electrical surge from one of the faulty Marcopolo buses that was parked in the place.

Another version said the intense fire had sparked from one of the buildings before it escalated into the parking lot and razed the vehicles. Several persons including passengers who came to put off the fire were injured.

However, an official in the company said the inferno was propelled by a bush that was burnt near a parked vehicle. The burning was a sanitation measure to weed off the place.

Efforts to contact the acting General Manager, Mrs. Monica Ugela failed as she was said to be attending the funeral ceremony of an elder statesman in the state.
