Benue Governor Charged DGSAs to run LG Councils, Ordered full payment of outgoing C/Chairmen entitlement!

Benue State Governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, inaugurated 23 Directors of General Services and Administrations-DGSAs on the 1st July, 2016 at the Benue People's House, to take over the Local Government affairs from the outgoing C/ Chairmen.

Meanwhile, the Governor directed the Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (BLGCA)to pay all the entitlements of outgoing local Government C/Chairmen. He expressed regrets over the inability of Govt to pay the Committees' Salaries from January to date, and directed that they should be paid from the balance of the bail out funds.

He explained that the caretaker committees were dissolved because the constitution permits their existence for only two terms of 6-Months each!

Govr. Ortom thanked the C/Chairmen for rendering good services despite the economic melt down. He directed the C/Chairmen to handover Vehicles and other Official properties to the DGSAs on Monday 4th July, 2016. He said the Vehicles were to serve the LG Council for a period of Four (4) Years, and the C/Chairpersons served only a year out of it, hence the reason for handing over of the Vehicles to the DGSAs and subsequently, the elected Chairpersons.

He urged the DGSAs to work with Advisers and Commissioners from their Local Governments, adding that each local government was being represented by a DGSA and warned them against corrupt practices while emphasising that EFCC is on the prowl for accountability!

Responding on behalf of the outgoing Chairmen, the ALGON Chairman, Hon. Samuel Agah, thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to have served in this capacity since the past one year.
