Gunmen on Rampage Kill 10 in Benue

Following the discovery of the armory of wanted militia leading, Terwase Agwaza in Gbishe, Benue, armed gunmen went on rampage leading to the death of 10 people.

The joint military and police security task force in Benue state recovered a large cache of ammunition among other items from Gbishe although Terwase escaped.

The recovered items include; 10 cartons of high calibre explosives, rocket launchers and hundreds of live ammunition, a power motorbike, military uniforms, helmet, handsets and two sacks of weeds, suspected to be Indian hemp.

The militia leader was declared wanted in connection with the killing of the senior special assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on special security, has been in hiding since a N5m bounty was placed on him.

Vanguard reports that the attack took place in Tor Donga which is also a strong-hold of the wanted man.

Apart from the 10 people confirmed dead, 28 other sustained serious injuries with some still in critical conditions.

An eyewitness said the armed men stormed the community on motorcycle around 10 pm.

Vera Akua who is the sole administrator of Katsina-Ala condemned the attack.

She lamented the attack and said it was similar to one carried out a few weeks ago that led to the death of a traditional ruler carried out by unknown gunmen.
