Benue Chapter of NUJ Donates to Orphanage Homes

Benue State chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) donated items to orphanage homes as part of activities marking its week.

While donating the materials at Gidan Bege, vice chairman of the central planning committee, Mr. Babajide Johnson, explained that the chapter decided to identify with the needy at this period when the world is commemorating the birth of Christ.

He urged well to do individuals as well as corporate organizations to render assistance to those in need, maintaining that society would be better of if the less privileged are well catered for.

At the state rehabilitation board that caters for persons with needs, the Executive Secretary, Mrs. Hembadoon Gum, who conducted members round the premises, lamented the neglect of the place by government.

She regretted that members of the host communities have vandalised most of the facilities, especially in Aliade, Gwer Local Government and Ohimini Local Government Areas.

According to Gum, “There is also serious case of congestion in the rehabilitation homes leading to outbreak of a disease, which was promptly tackled. It is unfortunate that society knows that this place exists but people do not come to our aid. For you to come and donate these items, I’m overwhelmed. I was even thinking of how to feed the children when they come back from holidays in January. This donation is timely.”
