Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Torwua Suswam PhD CON has been released from detention by the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in Abuja.

He was released on the afternoon of Sunday, 7th May, 2017 on bail granted to him on self-recognition by the DSS who have kept him in their custody for over two months.

The former Benue State Governor was arrested and alleged to be in possession of unlicensed firearms and later the security agency claimed it had received petitions alleging him to be linked to wanted outlaw Terwase Akwaza aka Gana.

Many have doubted Suswam's links to Gana pointing to the fact that throughout the eight years of his reign as Governor the outlaw had stayed in hiding being always on the run from the law.

Meanwhile, supporters and sympathisers of the former Governor, within and outside of Benue State, have been thrown into jubilation, with many thanking God for his release.

Suswam's release is coming on the heels of the rumoured efforts by the Tor Tiv, HRM Prof. James Ortese Ayatse, to intervene in the matter and seek his release from the prolonged detention.

Bemgba Iortyom, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Benue State Chapter, writes from Makurdi.
