Aggrieved APC Members In Benue Call For Cancellation Of Congress

A group of aggrieved members of the APC in Benue South senatorial district have called for the total cancellation of the state congress, demanding that a proper congress be conducted in the shortest possible time.

In a statement signed by Daniel Onjeh, Chairman, Governing Board at Project Development Institute (PRODA), on behalf of the aggrieved party members, and made available to Daily Sun on Sunday, the group threatened to institute legal action against the congress committee if the APC National Executive Committee failed to cancel the Benue congress.

Onjeh, who stated that the congress was marred by irregularities, said that many prominent members of the party were not carried along, alleging that were disenfranchised from participating in the entire process.

“The Congress Guidelines clearly stipulated who the delegates for the State Congresses should be, which were the Executives of the party from the Ward and Local Government levels,” he said.

“But to our utter amazement, many aspirants for state positions who had earlier deposited their monies and obtained their tellers, were denied nomination forms by the State Congress Planning Committee, scheming in cahoots with some incumbent state party executives and other cynical and ill-motivated cabals within the party in the state.

“Only few selected aspirants, who were either sponsored or endorsed by the cabals, were availed of their nomination forms. The State Congress Planning Committee neither had a Secretariat nor a meeting point where people could access it and its members.”

Daily Sun observed that, although the state congress was conducted under a peaceful atmosphere at the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi, some prominent members of the party including Oker Jev representing Buruku Federal constituency, Hassan Saleh representing Ogbadibo/Ado/Okpokwu Federal constituency and former House of Representatives member for Vandeikya/Konshisha, Hernan Hembe, and Hon. Daniel Onjeh, were conspicuously absent.
